Alexander Beaulieu Hibbs
Artist Bio
Alexander is a maker of jewelry and objects, who takes his inspiration from the history of craft and found objects. From an early age his mother encouraged his artistic abilities, while his father taught him valuable lessons on how to build and fix things. While attending an Arts Magnet High School in Tampa, Florida, Alexander was exposed to the art of jewelry making. With his new passion he then enrolled at the State University of New York at New Paltz, to participate in their renowned metals program. He studied under Jamie Bennett and Myra Mimlitsch-Grey, two well known artists in the metals field. While spearheading an international exchange program with the Italian jewelry school Alchimia, he spent a semester abroad in Florence. There he received guidance from the influential German jeweler, Manfred Bischoff. He graduated from SUNY New Paltz with a BFA In Metals in 2009, and currently resides in South Carolina
Whats in a name?
Beaulieu was my Grandmother's maiden name. It is French and means "Beautiful Place". It is pronounced "Bowl-You".
